Lodhi Garden Through My Lens

Shisha Gumbad

Shisha Gumbad, standing gloriously in the pages of history flaunting the presence of Lodhi Dynasty over Delhi and India.
There exist two patterns in the tomb; Square and Octagonal. This tomb and Bara-Gumbad to its south, are square on plan  .
With its facade divided horizontally by a string course and with series of sunk niches running above and below it .Its western wall is provided with a Mihrab(Arc),which served as a Mosque while the other sides have a central entrance set in a projecting frame
Its name, meaning a Dome of Glass.

There are several graves inside it, but the names of the persons buried here are not known. The tomb was, however, built during  Sikandar Lodi's reign (1489-1517).
The site is now protected by the  Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
