Love of the Narcissist
A great while ago when the world was full of wonders there was a hunter in an enchanted forest who was renowned for his beauty. He was so mesmerizing, that anyone who had crossed his path fell in love with him at the very first glance. But, the Narcissus was absolutely unaware that how majestic he is.
One day his wanderlust drove him deep into the forest. While Exploring the vivid woods, he came across a profound lake. The lake was as majestic as Narcissus; immaculate as a mirror, blessed with fresh water. Her beauty was so irresistible that even the Narcissus, was indulged towards her. He felt a great urge to drink from it.So he knelt at the bank and leaned forward to satisfy his thrust. He saw his reflection, for the very first time. Now, the utterly fascinated Narcissus has been fallen in love with the man the lake, like everyone else. He wasn't able to leave the reflection.
Deeply indulged in self-love, he found himself unable to take off eyes from the reflection and contemplate until death.
When Narcissus died the enchanted forest turned into the lifeless stretch but no one's pain could be compared with the pain of the lake.
The goddesses of the forest appeared to the lake and found the lake which once renounced for her fresh water, has transformed into a lake of salt.
"Why do you weep?" the goddesses asked.
"I weep for Narcissus" ,the lake replied.
Ah, it is no surprise that you weep for Narcissus, she said, for though we always pursued him in the forest, you alone could contemplate his beauty close at hand.
"But, was Narcissus beautiful?", the lake asked. "Who better than you to knows that?" the goddess asked in wonder.
"Afterall it was by your banks that he knelt to contemplate himself!"
"Afterall it was by your banks that he knelt to contemplate himself!"
The lake went silent for some time.
Finally, It said: "I weep for Narcissus, but I never noticed that he was beautiful. I weep because each time he knelt beside my banks, I could see in the depth of his eyes my own beauty reflected.
